Kaleidoscope’s Hyder to address vital issues in transitioning from classroom to online training.

Expert in synchronous training to speak at The eLearning Guild’s eLearning Producer conference in San Francisco

(Palmyra, N.Y., Nov. 3, 2003) – Karen Hyder, managing director of Kaleidoscope Training and Consulting, a firm specializing in developing technical-training skills, will present “Supporting Your Trainers’ Evolution into Synchronous Online Training Experts” at the eLearning Guild’s annual conference and expo, set for Nov. 11 to 14 in San Francisco.

Hyder’s presentation is designed for those who are developing staff skills to become online trainers and coaches.

“Deciding to move the instructor-led training function online using a new synchronous tool is only the first step for an organization,” says Hyder, a trainer of trainers. “Many trainers will resist. Tried-and-true classroom methods may not work, and materials may need to be rewritten. Trainers will need help to maximize the tool.”

More than simply learning how to adapt materials for online, participants in Hyder’s “Supporting Your Trainers’ Evolution” session will discover ways to support the organization’s move to synchronous online training. That move is likely to require alleviating anxieties by building creative backup plans for critical elements, adopting new roles, creating different relationships, and setting new expectations. By using a group activity, participants will uncover challenges to teaching online, identify solutions and create action plans.

“Organizations are realizing that there’s more to online training than clicking through pages,” Hyder adds “There’s something useful about having a group learning, thinking and talking about the same subject at the same time. The connection works when participants can see, hear and verbalize ideas – synchronously. The only thing really missing is the body language, and several online strategies are available to help compensate for that.”
