Free eBook outlines best practices in virtual classroom techniques

(Palmyra, N.Y., January 16, 2007) - Karen Hyder, internationally known eLearning expert and owner of Palmyra-based Kaleidoscope Training and Consulting, announces the electronic publication of "The eLearning Guild's Handbook on Synchronous eLearning."

The 140-page eBook is a comprehensive resource for trainers, training developers and subject matter experts who are preparing to deliver training using virtual classroom or synchronous - at the same time - online software tools like WebEx Training Center, Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional and Elluminate Live!

"The eLearning Guild's Handbook" introduces readers to tools, methods and best practices to create training sessions that can be delivered to learners who are logged in remotely to a virtual class. It was co-authored by Matthew Murray of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ron Miazga of Univar USA, and Dr. Ann Kwinn of Clark Training & Consulting and was edited by Bill Brandon of the eLearning Guild. Development was sponsored by WebEx.

"Preparing to train effectively online using virtual classroom tools requires more than uploading a PowerPoint slide file and dialing into a conference call," Hyder says. "Trainers need to think differently about how to communicate and engage learners whom they cannot see, especially when websites and email can easily distract learners from the session." Learners also need to prepare for this mode of learning, Hyder says. "The tools they are used to using in the classroom simply don't exist in a synchronous online environment. The good news is that, other, sometimes better training methods are easily accessible."

Chapters in "The eLearning Guild's Handbook" include:
